Twin Gorges Run
These photos and video are from a run a group of us did a couple of weeks ago following the Manawatu Scenic Route up through Pohangina Valley and the Twin Gorges through to Rangiwahia. It is a great ride and it was another reminder of how lucky we are with the wonderful roads, rides and scenery we have at our doorstep. The weather was suitably fine as well which always makes for a great ride as well. Eight of us departed from our usual Memorial Park location with Gary out the front on his VFR 800. It was great to see the Viffer out for a spin as he is usually on his BMW looking for unridden metal roads. Dave brought along his CBR 650F out for a spin and warren was on his XJ900. Stuart had the KLE500 out and Ray was putting more kays on his Tiger and Graham thought it was about time his Bonneville spent some time on the road. Yours truly and Richard were out on our Suzooks and looking forward to a few pleasant riding hours as well. Gary's friend Dave D from Wellington was also up for the day on his very tidy Suzuki SV1000
The run up through the valley was pleasant as always with the Pohangina river on your left and the Ruahine Ranges on the right. The Piripiri campsite signaled the crossing of the river and we were soon heading over towards the Oroua River and Apiti. However the scenic route has us missing Apiti and heading towards towards Rangiwahia via what used to be called the Old Coach Road. We had a 'pit stop' at Rangiwahia and then headed on down to Kimbolton for our cafe stop. Hansen's has become a favourite amongst the crew with the gourmet pizza's particularly popular with some (eh Ray and Graham). After spending a pleasant hour or so yarning and catching up with 'the locals' (from Feilding) we headed home with another load of great memories.
