Manawatu Classic Motorcycle Club Rally 2023
The Manawatu Classic Motorcycle Club ran another very successful rally at Camp Rangi Woods in November. Spread over three days the big day was on Saturday the 26th with the friendly weather very conducive to motorcycling activities. The beginning of the day saw breakfast at 7:30 followed by the line up of bikes for judging. The conclusion of this saw riders briefing and then the bikes were on the road by 10:30. The run up through the Pohangina valley, the Twin Gorges and back down to through Rangiwahia made for an excellent ride with plenty of chocolate box scenery along a variety of winding and open roads. A second shorter route that went through Apiti was also offered and everyone converged at the same time at Rush's Museum just in time for lunch. The stop included a fascinating talk from Garth Thomas, a father and son engineering team who certainly impressed with there hand built car and motorcycles that are a part of the museum collection now. It was then back to camp and a few pre dinner drinks followed by an excellent roast meal and pudding. Prize giving saw just about everyone collect something to take home alongside a great story about there day out and about in the Manawatu. This was then followed by a most interesting talk from Colin Fink who was working at McMurdo when the Erebus tragedy occurred. A really sobering talk.
A big congratulations to the team at the Manawatu Classic Motorcycle Club who put together such a great rally. For some of those who had not attended previous rally's there was plenty of praise and talk of returning next time! Well done
