Manawatu Classic Motorcycle Club Ride July 2026

The Manawatu Classic Motorcycle Club enjoyed a fine winters day for their July club run. After the monthly meeting concluded at the Bunnythorpe Community Centre, everyone enjoyed a cup of tea or coffee with a biscuit before heading to the assembled motorcycles in the car park. Today’s ride was shorter than usual as we were off to look at a significant private motorcycle collection . The location and nature of the collection remain unspecified, but it was substantial in number and very valuable, serving as the owner’s superannuation scheme! It seems his shed is full, perhaps indicating an upcoming retirement. We are grateful for the opportunity to view this impressive collection, and it’s understandable why he wishes to keep its location and his identity secret. Thank you for allowing us a visit.

The ride featured a varied collection of modern and classic bikes. The classic bikes included mainly British BSA’s and Triumphs, with a Norton, Kawasaki, Yamaha, and a 1940s Indian for good measure. The modern bikes were represented by Triumphs, Moto Guzzi, BMW, Kawasaki, Suzuki, and Honda. It was particularly interesting to see Graham on one of the new BSA Bantams—nothing like the old ones, but a tastefully done retro. The little Triumph 400s seemed popular among the club members, with some great stories of recent tours around the North Island on them. Well done!

After visiting and exploring the countryside, we headed to Murphy’s for lunch and refreshments. It’s easy to see why this is a popular destination for club rides; they offer a good menu and prices with quality food. The car park out the back is very handy and has plenty of room for parking bikes. All too soon, it was time to head home after spending a pleasant part of Sunday in good company, sharing stories with people who have a shared interest in heritage motorcycling.

The club meets every second Sunday of the month at the Bunnythorpe Community Centre at 10:00 am.
