Manawatu Classic Motorcycle Club February Ride

It has been a while since I have been out with the Manawatu Classic Motorcycle Club, so last Sunday morning saw me head off to their February meeting and ride this morning. As you would expect, the tragic death of John Rushton is still very raw, and they seem to be doing very well to fill the large hole John has left. It was good to see the club getting back into their routine with a meeting and a ride, and the weather playing its part with a lovely summer’s day. It was also nice to meet the two gentlemen from Caterton in the carpark on my arrival (late) who were very keen to find out a bit more about the club and maybe join. We headed inside just in time for a cup of tea.

With introductions made to Errol and Dave and a cups of tea and biscuits consumed, the ride got under way with a jaunt around the Manawatu and Rangitikei in order. With a choice of two rides, we all set off towards Ashhurst and made our way through to Colyton via Valley Road, where the group split into two, and one had the choice of a more direct route to our lunch destination, Murray’s Irish Bar, or travel a little further and enjoy some more of the summer countryside via Stanway and back through Halcombe to our final destination.

The convenience of a large car park out the back also recommends Murrays as a great destination. The fifteen-dollar lunch menu was very popular, and they were able to handle our group of 20 very well considering the popularity of the place. The final destination was also a reminder that the club is having its annual swap meet in Feilding in early March, so make sure you put the 8th of March at 8 am in your calendars at the Coach House Museum.
